CHOCOLATE CAKE

(MAKES 1 9×13 or 1 Layer CAKE)

1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup lard (or vegetable shortening)
2 eggs, unbeaten
1 cup buttermilk
2 and three forth cups flour
one half cup cocoa powder
one half cup boiling water
1 teaspoon baking soda
Cream sugars and lard (or shortening). Mix in eggs, butter milk, flour and cocoa until well blended. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water, then stir into batter. Pour into two greased and floured round layer cake pans or 9×13 pan. Bake at 350 degree oven for 25-35 minutes. Test for doneness before removing from oven.
