Painted Dolls

5-1/4 c. Flour
1-1/2 t. Baking Powder
3/4 t. Salt
1-1/2 c. Lard
2-1/4 c. Sugar
3 Eggs, beaten
2 t. Lemon zest
Sift dry ingredients, cream lard and sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in eggs, beat until thick. Add zest, blend in dry ingredients. Chill dough roll out 1/4 inch thick in small batches. Transfer each one to a greased sheet pan. Chill before baking to prevent spreading. Bake 400 about 15 min shifting at 10 minutes to brown evenly. Makes 1 doz. 6-inch dolls or 1-1/2 doz., 5-inch dolls.
Frosting

1 pound powdered sugar
2 T. butter, melted
3 to 4 T. Hot water (not milk)
Flavoring and food coloring
Blend and flavor. Divide into small dishes for coloring. Thin so a water color paint brush maybe used. Let one color dry before applying another. Make thicker to write names. Make a cone with parchment paper, fill and write.
